COST ACTION ES1207 EUBREWNET OPEN CONGRESS /14th WMO-GAW BREWER USERS GROUP MEETING
EUBREWNET & WMO GAW BREWER OPERATOR COURSE
State Meteorological Agency of Spain, Tenerife, Spain- 24th – 28th March 2014
BREWER OPERATOR COURSE
The final list of accepted students of the training school are now available, here.
The initial program of the course is slightly changed, we have 8 sessions of 90 minutes a short theoretical introduction (15-20 minutes) and a practical session of 60 minutes. The theoric introduction will be on the confererence room and the practical at the workshop room and also we can use the parking area where the brewer 033 will be installed (see fotos below).
This is a practical oriented course, the students are requested to bring his own laptop and his also his own data, during the course the we practical sessions will be use his own data. The students will be divided in woring groups (6) who develop a short project with the supervision of a designated tutor, that will be presented during the last session of the course.
We will be around 40 students and will be divided in two groups for the practical sessions, and the theoric lectures will be imparted together to the two groups. This is why the teachers are labeled with 1 or 2 depending of the group of students. During monday sessions the two groups will alternate at the parking area with the brewer (session 1 during morning, session 4 during afternoon) with the practice at the workshop room (the session 2 during afternoon and 3 during morning). On Tuesday/Wednesday we use conference and working group for that.

First Announcement
This is the first announcement for the EUBREWNET training school and Brewer Ozone Spectrophotometer open congress in conjunction with the 14th Biennial WMO-GAW Brewer Users Group Meeting. The event is a joint collaboration of EUBREWNET (COST Action ES1207) and WMO-GAW. The event will be hosted by the State Meteorological Agency of Spain (AEMET) in Tenerife 24-28 of March 2014 with the collaboration of the Spanish Oceanographic Institute.
The training school and congress will focus on operational, scientific and technical issues of the Brewer instrument. The Brewer Ozone Spectrophotometer is widely used throughout the world for ground based total ozone column measurements and can also provide solar spectral UV, Aerosol Optical Depth, NO2 and SO2 data, plus ozone vertical profiles from Umkehr measurements. The aim of EUBREWNET is to establish a coherent network of Brewer Spectrophotometer monitoring stations throughout Europe and to collaborate with other regional networks in order to harmonise operations and develop approaches, practices and protocols to achieve consistency in quality control, quality assurance and coordinated operations.
The week begins with the training course which is mainly practical and will cover the topics of basic operation of the brewer instrument and data reduction. Financial support for students may be available from COST Action ES1207 (COST countries only) or from WMO (developing countries). After the course an open meeting has been organised including scientific discussions of the EUBREWNET working groups: Calibration and Characterization (WG1), Algorithms and data analysis (WG2), Data protocols (WG3) and Networking (WG4). As usual, you are strongly encouraged to submit oral or poster presentations either within the EUBREWNET focus or otherwise.
Even if you are only interested on the course the assistance to the meeting is recommended to all the students and can be considered as advance continuation of the course.
The course is mainly practical, the objective is that the operator can process and evaluate his own data set and send it regularly to WOUDC database. All participants are requested to bring to the course one year of observations, one-year “raw brewer files” are mandatory (Bfiles, UVfiles and Average files) and will be required before the start of the course.
