“THE 14th INTERCOMPARISON CAMPAIGN OF THE REGIONAL BREWER CALIBRATION CENTER-EUROPE”
FIRST ANNOUNCEMENT
This is the announcement for the WMO-GAW Brewer Ozone Spectrophotometer training school and the Total Ozone intercomparison.
The XIV intercomparison campaign will by held at El Arenosillo Atmospheric Sounding Station of the “Instituto Nacional de Técnica Aeroespacial” (INTA) during the period 17 to 28 of June, 2019. This will be an open campaign to all Total Ozone instruments with can include Dobson, Brewer, Pandora and SAOZ and CCD spectrometers. The Brewer traveling from the Regional Brewer Calibration Center will serve as ozone reference and the QASUME unit from the World Calibration Center will provide the UV calibration for the participating instruments.
The Brewer(*) operator course will be hosted by the Spanish Meteorological Agency (AEMET), from the 17thto the 21thof June 2019. The training school will focus on operational, scientific and technical issues of the Brewer instrument. The training course, which is mainly practical, will cover the topics of the basic operation of the Brewer instrument and data reduction. As with previous Brewer workshops, you are strongly encouraged to bring your Brewer observations and history and submit oral or poster presentations about your work.
Financial support for attendees from developing countries may be available from the Vienna Convention Trust Fund , the Canadian Brewer Trust Fund and AEMET via WMO. For those wishing to attend the training school and apply for a support grant, please complete the school registration form and contact Geir BraathenGBraathen@wmo.int before 1stof February of 2019. Funding cannot be guaranteed after this deadline.
For those not eligible for a support grant, please complete the school registration form by 1st May 2019.

(*) The Brewer Ozone Spectrophotometer is widely used throughout the world for ground-based total ozone column measurements and can also provide solar spectral UV, Aerosol Optical Depth, NO2, and SO2 data, plus ozone vertical profiles from Umkehr measurements.

Location
El Arenosillo is located at the 33 km point from Huelva – Matalascañas, in the pre-National Park of Doñana. On the road there is a small sign indicating INTA, which is easy to find because there is a 100m tall tower that can be seen from far away. El Arenosillo is 100 km from Seville airport and 150km from Faro (Portugal) airport.
Closest lodging to El Arenosillo is Mazagón, a small tourist village by the seaside, about 10 km distance. This is the most convenient place to stay.
Means of transport
International flights to Sevilla and Faro (Portugal). Faro option is only interesting if renting a car.
Travel by public bus:
- Buses from Sevilla to Huelva. Departures from “Plaza de Armas” bus station each hour approx. (8 €). It is advisable to take route by A-49 motorway because this is direct (one hour trip).

The students can be divided into 4 groups tutored by one of the teachers The tutor will guide the group during the practical sessions (TX) , so during the practical sessions all the teachers are involved.
Every group will develop a project to be developed during the course, and presented during Friday Session. A possible project will be:
1: Considerations to Setup a new station, maintenance protocols
2: Evaluation of the ozone
3: Evaluation of the UV of a particular series
4: Data processing and database sent
